What’s my dream?

Born with a congenital disease that prevented his right forearm and right pectoral muscle from developing, David passionately believes in the importance of dreaming big no matter what challenges you face

From the age of 9, David began to explore his interest in creating and building things. Fast forward to nearly ten years later when David, who was only 18 years old at the time, was awarded the Guinness World Record for creating the world’s first functional prosthetic arm out of LEGO®, which includes fingers, a motor and even a pressure sensor. Since then, he hasn’t stopped creating and fine-tuning his inventions and now designs his prosthetics on his computer – over 8 so far!

My dream is to make prosthetics more accessible to everyone that needs them.

David is motivated by a passion for innovation and a strong belief in fuelling change and helping others who, like him, were born with a dif-ability (different ability), as well as inspiring others to believe in their own dreams, no matter the challenges that face them.

Soon after the news of his Guinness World Record win was published, David was contacted by the family of Beknur, an 8-year-old boy who doesn’t have any developed limbs. David created not one but two LEGO® prosthetic arms for Beknur, both of which are controlled by Beknur’s feet and allow him to pick up objects and play with his brother.

Getting creative with building blocks helped David to recognize that his physical condition isn’t a limitation, and the joy of seeing how his designs can help to improve the lives of people like Beknur motivates David to continue to pursue his own dream. Through his various educational and social impact projects, David is focusing on his big dream of making prosthetics more accessible to everyone who needs them.

Building a better world, one LEGO® brick at a time

Today, David is studying bioengineering at the International University of Catalunya (Universitat Internacional de Catalunya) (UIC Barcelona)) and has recently published his memoir, Piece by Piece, which is available in multiple languages. Since his story was first shared with the world, David’s incredible achievements have been recognized by multiple awards and ambassadorial roles.
