What’s her dream?
From childhood years living on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro to the bustling streets of New York, where she lives today, Ingrid’s pursuit of her dream to become a professional ballet dancer means she now calls both cities home.
Ingrid is the principal dancer at one of the most acclaimed ballet companies in the US, having first discovered her passion for dance in Rio through a social project that introduced her to ballet. With the support of her family, she was able to nurture and refine her natural talents, leading to an opportunity for her to take on new heights to fulfill her dream.
It wasn’t an easy journey. Coming to New York, she had to leave her family and learn a new language. All the intense training, persistence and the will to make a statement made Ingrid the ballerina that she is today. Having to initially hand-paint her ballet pointe shoes with makeup to match her skin tone, she has paved the way for many girls who are beginning their journeys by wearing shoes that match the color of her skin by design. Ingrid has people around who support her dream, and with that support, she has become a vocal champion of greater diversity and inclusion in ballet.
